Originally from the Coast Salish region of Washington, Carmen arrives to Nixyáawíi (Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Reservation) and Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts from Mni Sóta Makoče (Minnesota) and Bde Ota othunwe (Minneapolis). During her time in Bde Ota, Carmen studied American Indian Studies with a focus on material culture at the University of Minnesota, and worked in the contemporary Native art world. She is dedicated to Indigenous visual sovereignties and the places in which they are furnished. Carmen is incredibly excited to be joining the team at Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts as Marketing and Gallery Manager, and is eager to learn from and with the community, colleagues, and artists.
