Introduction to Crow’s Shadow, Pendleton, and Eastern Oregon:
Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts is located on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in the foothills of Oregon’s Blue Mountains, on the grounds of a Catholic Mission founded in 1847. Crow’s Shadow is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization formed in 1992. Our mission is to provide a creative conduit for educational, social, and economic opportunities for Native Americans through artistic development. Over the last 27 years Crow’s Shadow has evolved into a nationally renowned publishing imprint focused on contemporary fine art printmaking. More information can be found online at crowsshadow.org.
Pendleton is a small town in Eastern Oregon located along the Umatilla River, and is famous for the Pendleton Round-Up, an annual outdoor rodeo. Pendleton is located on the dry, sunny side of Oregon, in a valley surrounded by the Blue Mountains to the east and the Columbia River region to the west. Pendleton is approximately three hours by car to Portland, three and a half hours from Boise, Idaho and about 50 minutes southwest of Walla Walla, Washington.
