Emily Arthur is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and serves as Chair of the Printmaking Area within the Art Department. Arthur received an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and has served as a Fellow at the Barnes Foundation for Advanced Theoretical and Critical Research, Pennsylvania.
Arthur is awarded to the Notable Women in the Arts, National Museum of Women in the Arts and has been nominated for a Joan Mitchell Foundation, Painters and Sculptors Grant. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Autry National Center of the American West, Los Angeles, CA, the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, Santa Fe, NM, Denver Art Museum, Denver CO, Saint Louis Art Museum, MO, and the Minneapolis Institute of Art, MN.
Arthur fluidly intermingles multiple techniques in her active studio practice, often blurring the lines between printmaking, drawing, painting, and installation. Endangered flora and fauna populate her richly layered works, highlighting the fragility of the environment and our role in it. This residency is generously funded by the National Endowment for the Arts.
