Please join Crow’s Shadow in welcoming Brenda Mallory (Cherokee Nation) to our studio. Brenda is primarily known as an installation artist, mining natural materials and mimicking organic processes with her generative sculptural installations. Texture and repeated rhythmic forms are instrumental to Mallory’s abstract compositions. A long-time Portland resident, Mallory’s artwork has recently begun to garner more national attention, particularly as a recipient of a 2015 Eiteljorg Contemporary Art Fellowship in Indianapolis. Mallory has attended multiple residencies, including a 2013 Residency in Sculpture at Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Colorado, and a 2015 GLEAN Residency in Portland Oregon; she is represented in Portland by Butters Gallery. Mallory’s 2016 Golden Spot Residency will be her first time working at Crow’s Shadow.
