We’re very appreciative to Spokane-based artist Ric Gendron, who completed a very productive weeklong residency May 23-29.

Gendron finished four outstanding series of monoprints.

An accomplished acrylic painter by default, Gendron said the printmaking process took some initial getting used to, but ended up working very well.

“We learned by trial and error and things just kind of clicked,” Gendron said of his collaboration with Master Printer Frank Janzen. “I loved working with him. He’s a hard worker and we pushed through.”

As with the rest of his work, Gendron said his inspiration for the prints derived from music, sketches, recurring images and his family.

“They all have sort of a spiritual quality to them,” Gendron said. “They deal a lot with spiritual awareness, how important, as I get older, family is to me.”

In addition to completing an impressive and colorful body of prints, Gendron also taught a half-day public workshop on acrylic painting to a class of 15 participants.

“My experience at Crow’s Shadow was excellent,” Gendron said. “Frank and I talked about doing it again.”

All of Gendron’s work is currently available for sale, and digital images will be added to the “prints” section of our Web site in the very near future.

Gendron’s was the second of eight residencies being funded through a grant from the Administration for Native Americans.
