Open House & Artist-in-Residence Talk: Thursday October 27, 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
Ryan Pierce will begin speaking at about 5:30 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
Crow’s Shadow is excited to share our print studio with the third Golden Spot Award Artist-in-Residence of the year, Ryan Pierce. Based in Portland, this will be Pierce’s first time working at Crow’s Shadow. During his two weeks in the studio he will develop a set of proofs for limited-edition prints, which will be hand-pulled by Crow’s Shadow’s Tamarind Master Printer, Frank Janzen. The final prints will enter the Crow’s Shadow permanent collection and be available for sale. In previous years prints from the Golden Spot residencies have traveled extensively to galleries and cultural institutions around the region and nationally.
Ryan Pierce has a BFA in Drawing from the Oregon College of Art & Craft (2003) and a MFA in Painting from the California College of the Arts (2007). Pierce is one of the founding members of Signal Fire, a wilderness residency program based in Oregon. His paintings draw on his intense interest in ecology and natural systems. Often working on large-scale canvases his subjects allude to mythologies, or suggest narrative through taxonomical arrangements. He has attended residencies from regional centers such as Caldera in Sisters, Oregon; Sitka Center for Art & Ecology in Cascade Head, Oregon; and as far-flung as Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder in Trondheim, Norway. Pierce’s work has been featured in many national and international exhibitions; he is represented by Elizabeth Leach Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
