National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $80 million in grants as part of the NEA’s second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018. Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $35,000 to Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts (CSIA) for its national visiting Native American Artists-in-Residence program.

The public is invited to Crow’s Shadow to meet Marwin Begaye for an artist talk and studio visit, which will occur from 5:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, May 31st. Begaye is the first Artist-in-Residence for Crow’s Shadow’s 2018 print residency season.

This four day intensive immersion into the art of monotypes and monoprint techniques is a perfect retreat for beginning and intermediate printmaking students. Focusing on the landscape of eastern Oregon, specifically the plateau region, workshop participants will study color theory, hone skills in ink modification and mixing, learn control over ink films, paper properties and proper handling techniques, printing techniques and various registration methods.
