Crow’s Shadow is honored to host our second Artist-in-Residence of the year, Samantha Wall. Portland-based Wall is one of our three annual Golden Spot Residency Award winners; this is her first time working at Crow’s Shadow. During her time in our studios she will develop a set of proofs for limited-edition prints, which will be hand-pulled by Crow’s Shadow’s Tamarind-trained Master Printer, Frank Janzen. The final prints will enter the Crow’s Shadow permanent collection and be available for sale. In previous years prints from the Golden Spot residencies have traveled extensively to galleries and cultural institutions around the region and nationally.
Samantha Wall graduated with an MFA in Visual Studies in 2011 from the Pacific Northwest College of Art. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Wall’s images explore identity through the push and pull of cultural diaspora and human interconnectedness. Her large-scale monochromatic figure drawings, particularly portraiture, tend to feature meticulously drawn women who embody Wall’s interest in navigating multicultural experiences. Over the last few years Wall has shown in multiple exhibitions throughout the Northwest, as well as several international exhibitions. She is represented in Portland by Laura Russo Gallery.
