About
Crow's Shadow Institute of the Arts (CSIA) provides a creative conduit for educational, social, and economic opportunities for Native Americans through artistic development.
“Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts envisions a world that is illumined and elevated through the genius of indigenous creativity.”
Crow's Shadow is located in the historic schoolhouse at Saint Andrew’s Mission on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation about 10 miles from downtown Pendleton. Crow's Shadow is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization formed in 1992 by artists James Lavadour (Walla Walla) and Phillip Cash Cash (Cayuse and Nez Perce). Over the last 30 years Crow’s Shadow has grown in both art world stature and programmatic vision, evolving into a world-class studio focused on contemporary fine art printmaking. Crow’s Shadow houses a state-of-the-art printmaking facility specializing in lithography, with capacity for producing both metal plate and stone lithography, and employs a Tamarind Master Printer. Equally important to its mission are workshops and training in traditional, indigenous arts.
